3rd May | Social Responsibility Day

26 abr 2018

On the **3rd May** , Universidade Europeia, IADE-UE and IPAM are promoting the **6th Edition of Social Responsibility Day** , dedicated exclusively to the practice of Volunteering.

This edition will take place in the Municipality of Penela, at the Parque Eólico de Malhadizes [Malhadizes Wind Farm] in Espinhal. Its aim is to clean and revive an area affected by fires that devastated the centre of the country in the last year, and to work simultaneously in the surrounding areas to prevent future fires similar to the ones we saw in 2017, where 109 people died and more than 440 thousand hectares of forest and communities burned.

To implement this initiative, we count on the participation of our students, teachers, staff members and various partners, primarily, with the partnership of FLOPEN – Associação de Produtores e Proprietários Florestais (Association of Producers and Forest Proprietors) from the municipality of Penela, whose main mission is the municipality’s promotion, protection and preservation.

With this initiative, Universidade Europeia, IADE-EU and IPAM intend, on the one hand, to raise awareness in the academic community about the need to protect our forests and prevent the growth of fuel that can burn, especially during summer months. On the other hand, this is a symbolic school-free day that seeks to provide an experience in volunteering to the academic community, praising its importance as a way of helping each other, the country, the environment and the entire world.

As Certified B CORP institutions, this is further evidence of our commitment to protect the environment and support the surrounding communities, namely after a catastrophe the size our country has suffered. Additionally, it is also a way of strengthening our world motto: HERE FOR GOOD. We are here to do good and it is something that we desire to foster within our entire academic community.

With this initiative, our Institutions still hope to respond to the various Sustainable Development Objectives defined by the UN, namely, goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), goal 15 (Life on Land) and goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

We have been promoting volunteering together with our academic community and partners for 6 years, in 5 distinct initiatives, where more than 1 000 volunteers have already participated in favour of social and environmental causes.
